Before using a product, you have to know how to use , when to use and what are the things to expect when using the product.
WHAT ARE FACIAL CLEANSER?
Facial cleanser are skincare product used to remove makeup, dead skin cells, oil, dirt and other types of pollutantsfrom the skin, helping to keep pores clear and prevent skin conditions like acne. These washing aids help prevent filth-accumulation, infections, pores clogs, irritation and cosmetic issues like dullness from dead skin buildup and excessive skin shine from sebum buildup. It is the first step in the skin care regimen and can be used with toner and moisturizer.
WHAT ARE CLEANSERS COMPOSED OF?
Cleansers are composed of surfactants as it is the principal constituents of most cleanser formulas and are responsible for its cleansing action. Surfactants move to the interface upon the dissolving in water and act by lowering the interfacial tension. Surfactants can be ionic,non-ionic and silicone containing. Ionic surfactants based on their polar portions can be anionic (- ively charged), cationic (+ively charged) and amphoteric (both +and- ively charged).
The constituent of cleansers are: water , surfactants(emulsifiers), moisturizers( for hydration), binders (stabilizers), lather enhancers, fillers(hardeners), preservatives, fragrance, dyes or pigment e.t.c.
TYPES OF CLEANSERS
1 Gel cleansers:They are clear with a gel-like consistency. They have deep cleaning and exfoliating properties and are good for oily or acne prone skin.
2. Cream cleansers :They are usually thicker and can be moisturizing, cleansing without stripping skin off it's natural oils and are good for dry or sensitive skin.
3.Foam cleansers :They are lightweight solutions creating a foamy lather when dispensed.Foam cleansers are pleasant to use and remove excess oil as effectively as gel cleanser and are good for combination skin.
HOW DO CLEANSER WORK
The normal pH of the skin is between 4.5 and 6.5 . When you cleanse your skin, there is an interaction that occurs between the cleanser, the skin moisture barrier and the skin pH. Soaps contain harsh surfactants that can alter the skin barrier and increase skin pH,increasing the potential for dryness and irritation. Soap- free gel, cream and foam cleansers are formulated to be as effective, but gentler, causing less disruption to the skin barrier and minimal change to skin pH.
WHY SHOULD I DOUBLE CLEANSE
Double cleansing is an approach rooted in Japanese tradition and uses two facial cleansers to remove impurities, while maintaining a healthy balance to your skin's natural moisture barrier.
The first facial cleanser is a silky, oil base cleanser. You gently massage it into the skin to lift in impurities trapped in your pores to the surface. After rinsing thoroughly, you use the second cleanser - a foam wash. When gently massage into your skin, this facial cleanser envelopes impurities with lather and, with a splash of water, rinses them away.
WHEN SHOULD I USE A CLEANSER?
Cleansing both in the morning and in the night is good. Cleansing in the morning is important because it rids the skin of excess oil and impurities that build up while sleeping, and cleansing at night is important because it ensures the skin is cleared of makeup, oil and dirt from the day.
It is also important to cleanse your skin after sweating. Sweat can be irritating to the skin, so cleansing it off as soon as you can is the best way to prevent irritation like breakouts, redness and itching.
Use a cleanser after swimming because of the saltwater and chlorine can be drying on the skin and can irritate the skin.
Lastly, you should cleanse your face in the shower especially if you're washing your hair. Shampoo and conditioner transfer from the hair to the skin while applying and rinsing them, and they're not formulated for the skin.
